曾任复旦大学物理系系主任。2000年9月起任复旦大学研究生院院长，2003年3月起加任复旦大学副校长。 曾主持或参加多项国家自然科学基金项目，专长凝聚态物理，主要研究方向为软凝聚态物理、生物医学物理等。现任上海市物理学会理事长。
